UCL Special Collections Open Morning: Magic and Western Esotericism

Location: UCL Object Based Learning Laboratory, Wilkins Building, Main Campus Gower Street London WC1E 6AE

Organiser: UCL Special Collections

Website

UCL's next Open Morning will showcase items related to the history of magic and western esotericism, and includes items from The Folklore Society Library and Archives

Join us in UCL's Object Based Learning Lab to meet friendly Special Collection's team members and see a small selection of the department's impressive collection of rare books, archives and manuscripts.

Special Collections holds several items related to the history of magic and western esotericism, including astrology, tarot, spirit summoning and folk traditions. Many of these works have influenced the development of subjects such as astronomy and cryptography or are part of modern esoteric traditions. At our next Bloomsbury Open Morning, we'll showcase several items from our collection which shed light on the history of magic and western esotericism.

Our team will be happy to tell you about the items on show and to answer any questions you might have. It's a great opportunity to learn about what special collections are and to meet people working as archivists, rare books librarians, educators, in digitisation and in conservation at a fun, free event!

This is a pop-in event in a small room, so we have created two time slots; 10am and 11am. Visitors do not need to turn up at the very start of each of those time slots, you can pop in at any time during your chosen hour. Please be aware that you may be asked to wait outside until the room has sufficient capacity.

There will be photography at this event; please tell us on arrival if you would prefer that you are not in any photographs taken.

This event is free to attend but places must be booked. Book your place here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ucl-special-collections-open-morning-magic-and-western-esotericism-tickets-1986427018686

Please bring your eventbrite ticket with you, printed out or on your phone, as security will need to see this when you enter campus.
