Online talk: Folklore in the Computer Age

Date 24 February 2026 19:00 - 20:30

Location Online talk

Speaker George Monger

Inspired by the sight of grandsons sitting in the same room each individually playing games on their phones I began to wonder what games children play now in the playground and if computer and phones games have overtaken the ‘traditional' children’s games noted by researchers such as Iona and Peter Opie.

From this I have been looking wider at other ‘folk’ events and seasonal events and how aspects of modern life, technology and commercialism effect these traditional and ‘folk’ practices and seasonal ceremonies.
